Quick Stop in Illinois!

The next stop on THE BIG TRIP was Horseshoe Lake State Park. In case you have not been to Horseshoe Lake State Park and are unaware of its attractions and which state it actually belongs to, I’ll take a brief moment to debrief you!

Horseshoe Lake State Park lies in Illinois’ Madison County (southwestern Illinois, off of I-111, where I stands for Interstate, not Illinois). It offers a sign where you can take your picture, just beside the registration office where you pay for camping, not day use. It currently costs $8/night for camping, unless the price went up in the last 48 hours.
While at Horseshoe Lake State Park, you can take a bird-walk. I’m not sure if this means walking like a bird, or walking looking and calling for birds. Also of interest may be the boating, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, picnicking (which usually accompanies all other activities of any duration) and of course, the mere natural attractions (e.g. low flood plain, see Lake).

Alisa and I also enjoyed a hot and humid tent, although tent is not included in the $8/night; we had to bring the tent ourselves. We also enjoyed the activities of hurrying to eat thanks to some small pesky bugs. Keep in mind that at this point in our trip, we are both tired and have quite a bit of poison ivy on ourselves. Hence, any discomfort we might usually perceive is amplified.

Some kid from a campsite nearby offered to move a picnic bench to our campsite. We declined since we were eating so fast anyway. Sleep came none too soon as did packing up and leaving to see Christina in Columbus, OH. Packing, of course began once the Park Ranger woke us up honking his truck horn. You see, we hadn’t paid yet and he wanted to make sure, bright and early in the morning, that we knew that we had to pay before leaving. We paid. We left.

Hi, Ho, Ohio!
